The One Where AT Says Video Game Movies Are Universally Shit!

I wrote this during the week.

It followed this.

I just can't shake it.

The film was dire.

It got me thinking... Movies based on video games. They're rubbish, aren't they?

Well, I thought for five seconds. They ARE rubbish.

They've hardly been getting better, either. Hitman was poor. Max Payne piss poor.

Do you know what the highest scoring video game movie is, on rotten tomatoes?

Final Fantasy: Spirits Within. That wasn't even live action! That's when you know things are bad.

That, and the fact it got 42%.

I suppose Doom was OK. I loved the bit where they went first person. Could you do a whole film like that, though? No.

All we really want it a Halo movie. Maybe we should be going the other way? Picking the best plots from movies, and making them into games... That's not with out it's problems, of course. A game of Memento. Could be a good puzzler. Inception? Hmmm. I'm less sure about that, even though I'd really like to spend more time in that world.

The Matrix sequels became video games in a way. When a Matrix video game was the next logical port of call, the magic was gone. it didn't capture the thrill of the first movie.

Mass Effect is coming.

How long before we get a Call Of Duty movie?

It's an odd one, as games are becoming more cinematic. It begs the question do we need video game to movie conversions?

Mrs T and I watched Prince Of Persia: Sands Of Time, and for some reason I'm partial to it. I'm sure it has nothing to do with Gemma Arterton. Although I really liked Clash Of The Titans, and Casino Royale, so...

Thanks for letting me rant. I feel better. If you do game, put me right below, if you can think of any exceptions.

Also pop over to my Blog, as I need your votes. This week... PS3 v X Box v Wii.
